Ready for Show Week Pittsburgh??

Meet Dorothy Chester from Dory's Jewelry...
I am a retired pharmacist who was looking for a creative outlet when I discovered bead weaving.  After 2 classes, I was hooked!!  I have been "beading" for 5 years and this will be my first Avant-Garde show.  I have always liked jewelry, so tend to create items that I would like to wear.  I especially like working with different shaped glass beads, using the shapes and colors to create new and interesting patterns.  My jewelry is wearable, unique and affordable.  And I love making it!!

Meet Nicole Crawford from Airmeth Aromatherapy...
My name is Nicole and my passion for aromatherapy began about 5 years ago when I started looking for natural ways to take care of myself and my family. I was so amazed at the results I started to spread the word. However, I quickly discovered that not everyone is comfortable with handling pure essential oils right from the bottle, or they just do not have the time to learn about how to use them safely. I still wanted people to experience the physical and mental benefits of using essential oils so I started to make products that we use everyday like soaps, lotions, and healing aids. With these products people discover the benefits of using essential oils without doing any extra work. It's a win win because I got to discover another passion of mine which is developing and making these products! This will be my first season with Avant-Garde Art & Craft shows.

Meet Alisha Chaffey from ASA Enterprises...
ASA Enterprises is a division of the ASA Social Fund for Hidden Peoples. By utilizing fair trade practices and providing micro-loans, we employ underserved artisans in Africa to create unique crafts. After selling all our craft items, ASA invests all profits into our partner organizations in Africa, including two children’s homes (Bright Kids Uganda & The Great King’s and Queen’s Children’s Centre), a disabled children’s school and support program, the United Against Gender Violence – Blessed Survivors group – supporting women and children, who have been emotionally and/or physically scarred by acid attacks and other forms of gender violence and “Adopt a Village” Project for Barlonyo, Uganda.
In 2008, Bright Kids Uganda USA (non-profit) was established to provide for the educational, medical and sustainable project needs of the Bright Kids Uganda children’s home in Africa. In 2015, the ASA Social Fund for Hidden Peoples, a non-profit organization was founded to reach out to several additional organizations closely associated with Bright Kids Uganda. This will be my second Avant-Garde show.
I believe in respecting the ability and uniqueness of every individual, regardless of their current circumstances. That all people should be able to participate in shaping a better future for themselves and their children.

We work directly with the crafts persons in Uganda to assist in purchase of materials and provide orders for crafts. All colors, designs and future products are at the discretion of the artisan.

Our goal for ASA Social Fund in 5 years is to have expanded to assist hidden peoples in other countries, including programs in Hungary and other parts of Europe. Our message is simple...Every person has value. By promoting and facilitating education, employment, creativity and self-reliance a brighter future is available to everyone.

Meet Kim Goodman from Punchneedle Art...
I am a 1977 graduate of Kent State Universty with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising. I married and moved to New Brighton, PA 6 years ago. I've been "punching" for 5 years and this is my first Avant-Garde show.
I am inspired by so many things...my patterns are often the result of something I've seen in print or even from fabric swatches. Some are also from patterns I've found online. After receiving a punchneedle piece as a gift in 2011, I loved it so much I just had to create them myself.
My process is pretty simple.  Once I find a pattern I'd like to do I trace it onto weavers cloth.  Next I select the colors of floss. I want to use and then I start punching. I've recently created an Etsy shop and hope to continue to grow my business through that, as well as social media sites and shows. My message, or rather hope, is that my work brings a smile to someone's face. That it is enjoyed and appreciated.
